Student Web Developers
Web Development Services (WebDev) is in the process of hiring student employees. The position is for a web developer working with PHP and MySQL to develop websites for IT Services and other departments on campus. Work includes programming, database design, testing and evaluating web services, helping clients maintaining content, and various other duties as assigned.
You do not need to already know PHP, but you must be willing and able to learn.
There is a brief PHP self-test that is part of the application. Qualified applicants should be able to learn enough PHP from the tutorials on W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com/php/) and/or through the online PHP Manual (http://www.php.net/manual/en/) to complete at least part of the self-test; the first one is even done for you. Applicants who do not complete the self-test will be given a lower preference, but may still be considered.
Applicants must also be familiar with standard programming principles and concepts; be able to work in a team environment as well as independently; be detail-oriented, creative, and self-motivated; and have strong communication skills and facility with standard American English.
One year commitment, including your first summer.
Student developers are expected to work for WebDev for a minimum of one full year. This commitment includes their first summer. If hired, you will be expected to commit to working for WebDev for (at least) one year, including Summer 2016.
The starting wage for this position is $10-12/hour + raises each semester.
The training wage is $10/hour and generally lasts a couple of months. After a successful evaluation, employees are moved to $12/hour. Additional increases are given at the end of each semester based upon performance and total hours worked. Student employees are expected to work between 15-20 hours/week during the semester and may work up to 40 hours/week during the breaks and summer. We're also happy to work with you on developing summer internships.
The position is continuous.
This means that as long as you're a student you can continue to work at WebDev. Our goal is to hire and train excellent underclassmen and keep them around until they graduate. Freshmen are encouraged to apply. Students with less than three semesters remaining are generally not considered.
CANDIDATES MUST APPLY ONLINE!
Individuals must submit their application online to apply for this position. Applications submitted by any other means will not be considered. (We are, after all, web developers.) Be sure to select "Web Development Services" under Areas of Interest, AND complete both the Web Development sections under "Specific Sections." Be sure to "Submit Application" when you're finished.
WebDev is not currently hiring, but you may still submit an application. If you do, you will be sent a reminder the next time we ARE hiring asking you to update and verify your application information. We generally hire most fall and spring semesters.
